Rio de Janeiro é o 2º internal mais caro nas Américas e ocupa o 22o no mundo, de acordo com a última pesquisa de custo de vida realizada pela ECA International, líder mundial no desenvolvimento e fornecimento de soluções para a gestão e atribuição de funcionários em todo o mundo. O Rio é seguido por São Paulo (29º) e Brasília (33º).
Os locais no Brasil aumentaram o ranking de custo de vida tellurian nos últimos anos. Em 2008, o Rio classificou-se apenas no 141º no ranking global. No ano seguinte, pulou para 51º lugar e em 2010 a cidade entrou no tip 20. Caracas, classificada na 13ª posição em nível mundial, continua a ser o internal mais caro para transferências internacionais na região.
A inflação excessiva na Argentina fez com que Buenos Aires fosse o internal que mais subiu no ranking global. A cidade argentina saltou 68 lugares até a 95ª posição. Em média, o custo da cesta de bens e serviços da ECA para transferências internacionais aumentou mais de 35% ao longo do ano.
